Below the Surface: St. Pancras and Kings Cross
Step into a realm of underground wonder with James’s latest creation; an homage to the intricate subterranean artwork that captivated minds in the mid-20th century. Inspired by the iconic diagrams found in publications like Eagle, Popular Science Magazine, and the Illustrated London News of the 1940s and 1950s, James delves deep into the subterranean world of London’s Underground networks.
Drawing inspiration from esteemed artists such as D. MacPherson and L. Ashwell Wood, James’s piece breathes new life into the labyrinthine networks beneath our feet. Within this masterpiece lie a myriad of elements – pipes, ducting, passage ways, train lines, ventilation shafts, emergency exits, cupboards, engine rooms, and generators – all weaving a mesmerizing tapestry that defies the imagination.
This original artwork is A3 size (42cm x 29.7cm) however its window mount and frame brings the external dimensions of the piece out to 58cm x 45.7cm. Each drawing is appended with a certificate of authenticity.
